I’ve spent over $30,000 on coaching in the last two years.
You might call me crazy.
But to me, this is normal (now).
Why did I spend so much?
Simple: I was stuck. Existentially stuck. And to me, the costs of remaining stuck were far higher than the costs of exiting that state.
I invested a lot to achieve Escape Velocity.
But this isn’t about me. It’s about you.
Are you stuck? Let’s fix that.
Health, wealth, relationships, career…the category doesn’t matter.
If you’re stuck in one or more of these areas, you’re choosing to tolerate the pain.
Sure, while you can’t fully control external circumstances, you can influence how you experience them.
But realize this: you can’t influence anything through passive, wishful thinking.
Real transformation requires active, serious investment.
It requires Skin In The Game.
You lack skin in the game
Skin In the Game means having a personal investment in the pursuit of a goal.
It’s about stepping into the arena and battling, rather than watching from the stands.
When I say “investment,” your mind immediately defaults to money 💰
But as an individual, you can (and must) invest with three different “currencies”: money, energy, and time (MET).
Solving a massive problem requires all three elements of MET.
Marriage on the rocks?
That $7 eBook won’t work.
Job overtaking your life?
That “career” podcast won’t save you.
Living paycheck to paycheck?
That $97 online course barely frames the issue.
My computer is drowning in free downloads and cheap online courses that I’ve never opened.
“Easy” and “free” don’t solve your problems.
Real transformation requires significant personalization and deep work.
Massive problems require massive investments.
I’m talking “holy sh**, this hurts” levels of investment.
That’s how human psychology works. Unless we’re “paying” a lot of MET, we’re not truly invested in solving the problem at hand. The problem remains.
More MET = more success.
This is your one wild and precious life. Don’t waste it. The clock is ticking and there’s a lot at stake.
Here’s my advice on putting Skin In The Game:
1. Get clear on the problem you need solved. Is it a shitty job? Terrible communication with your spouse? Bad nutrition habits? Lock in on the most burning root issue. Solve that.
2. Find an end-to-end transformation. You don’t want a “generalist” coach or a “mindset reboot” course. Given you identify the problem (#1), your aim is to from Point A to Point B. Identify resources that can help you make the exact transformation you’re seeking, from A to B. Look for resources that do this:
3. Make an uncomfortable investment. Maybe it’s time finally to spend five figures on yourself, rather than just on those “sensible” investments, like a house or car. And beyond the money, create the space and conditions in your life to invest significant energy and time into the transformation you’re seeking. When the problem is existential, you don’t “fit it in” on the fringes of your day. You make it your priority. Go full-MET.
4. As a new massive problem arises, invest again. Once you start seeing the gains from your MET investments, you’ll build personal investment muscles. Once problem A is solved, build the resources to solve problem B. It’ll become healthily addictive. The results stack beautifully.
Stop wasting time and making excuses.
